Our America’s first Facebook Town Hall on January 23 featured a congressional update from Congressman Juan Ciscomani (AZ-06) who told us one of the top priorities in the new Congress is to secure the border.
In the opening days of the 119th Congress, Ciscomani introduced a bill which passed the House in the previous Congress, but was never voted on in the Senate. H.R. 35 would to crack down on high-speed car chases along the border.
“It had bipartisan support last time, and I expect it to pass with bipartisan support again, go to the Senate and hopefully be signed by the president,” Ciscomani told Our America’s National Director Gabriel Nadales. “It’s a bill that makes sense. What doesn’t make sense is that it isn’t already a federal crime not to yield to federal law enforcement. We have traffickers and smugglers driving migrants through residential zones, not respecting any local ordinances. They are fleeing federal law enforcement because these drivers know that federal law enforcement can’t do anything to stop them. And there’s no punishment for this!”
Ciscomani also addressed cost of living concerns saying that inflation is largely driven by our national debt and federal spending. He noted that he is a member of the DOGE caucus, committed to improving government efficiency.
“A lot of times it means cutting and reducing spending,” he said. “It’s also making sure that the spending that the government already does actually gets to the right areas, and that we can deliver the services that the federal government should be delivering for our citizens.”
The congressman also pointed to high energy costs as a source of inflation. “When we look at the policies of the Biden administration, they really restricted the energy supply from within the United States causing us to import our energy from other countries, and they can charge us whatever they want. This makes no sense when we have what it takes here domestically.”
Our America’s Vice President Glen Caroline also addressed the Town Hall sharing 5 “simple, but important” things each of us can do to make a difference in our communities.
- Act as a force multiplier by inviting a friend or a family member to become a Hometown Hero to help us grow our volunteer force. Send them to Our America’s Hometown Hero page to learn more.
- Know who your federal and state lawmakers are. Caroline said “A simple Google search with your address will tell you who your current elected officials are, both in Washington, DC, in your state capitol, and even down to the city and precinct level. Take a few minutes and do your due diligence to make sure you’re current on which elected officials work for you and represent you.”
- Engage with Our America’s calls to action. We are currently supporting four nominees for key positions in the new administration. Learn more about these nominees here. Contact your two United States Senators by calling the Senate switchboard 202-224-3121, and ask them to support the following four nominees: Lori Chavez-DeRemer for Secretary of Labor; Scott Turner for Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development; Harmeet Dhillon for Assistant Attorney General of the Civil Rights Division in the Department of Justice, and Kelly Loeffler for Administrator of the Small Business Administration.
- Register to vote and vote early. “Regardless of how you feel about early voting, it is the new normal in our country,” Caroline said. “It’s often the difference between victory and defeat. So please make sure as the next election approaches, you take advantage of early voting to ensure that your vote is banked, your vote is counted and your vote matters.”
- Follow Our America on social media. “We have a very robust presence all across the spectrum on social media, and I ask that you not only follow, like, and comment on our posts, but share them, as well,” Caroline concluded.
