Wisconsin needs a governor who is serious about crime, and Tom Tiffany has already proven he is one.
For Congressman Tom Tiffany, public safety has become one of the issues most closely associated with him during his time in the US House of Representatives, distinguishing him from his opposition and from many of his colleagues.
In Congress, and since the chaotic summer of 2020, Tiffany has built a persistent public identity around supporting our police, backing tougher prosecution of violent offenders, and increasing funding for law enforcement and the tools and resources they need, so we can build safer streets and a brighter future for Wisconsin.
During the fall of 2022, Tiffany repeatedly pointed to the failures of the American criminal justice system. In a newsletter to constituents, he described that period in stark terms, writing that “All of us remember the riots, looting, arson, vandalism, and lawlessness that gripped local communities during the summer of 2020”
This did not remain confined to newsletters. Ahead of an August 2022 telephone town hall with Marathon County Sheriff Scott Parks, held to discuss what his office called “the crime wave sweeping our nation,” Tiffany said: “Wisconsinites want our streets to be safe, our border to be secure, and criminals to be behind bars.”
Tiffany has backed up that record with legislation. Alongside Representative Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY), he introduced the Prosecutors Need to Prosecute Act, H.R. 7967, in June 2022 — requiring local prosecutors to publicly report how often they follow through on holding violent criminals accountable.
In September 2022, Tiffany co-sponsored the Combating Violent and Dangerous Crime Act, which strengthened federal statutes covering homicide, bank robbery, carjacking, kidnapping, and other violent crimes. And Tiffany reached across the aisle, introducing the Justice for Murder Victims Act with Democratic Representative Hank Johnson of Georgia, updating the statute of limitations on murder so prosecutions can move forward even years later.
That’s the record Tiffany has built in Congress. As governor, he wants to build on it and deliver what Wisconsinites want: Safer streets and a brighter future for every corner of Wisconsin.
