On Friday, April 11, 2025, Our America, the Hispanic Liberty Alliance, Padres Unido and Conserva Mi Voto, proudly hosted a dynamic Mock Legislative Session at the Arizona House of Representatives.
Over 65 participants took part in this rare and empowering experience, which profoundly impacted their understanding of the legislative process and their role in civic engagement.
It was a unique opportunity for the attendees to step into the shoes of Arizona House of Representative members for a day. With access to the actual Arizona House of Representatives floor, microphones, voting panels, and seating, they participated in a hands-on simulation of the legislative process, debating and voting on a sample bill just like in a real session. Speaker Pro Tempore Neil Carter helped facilitate the mock session. Our goal was to educate and inspire active civic engagement among Arizona families and community members.
Following the session, we hosted a Lunch and Learn, where representatives from all organizing groups shared their mission and ongoing work. We emphasized the crucial role of civic literacy and understanding how government works, and encouraged individuals to get involved—whether by voting, advocating, or considering public service themselves.
Our thanks to Arizona Speaker of the House Steve Montenegro for allowing us access to the House of Representatives floor and meeting room for us to host this event.
“When people are given the chance to understand how their government works, and experience it firsthand, something powerful happens. They begin to see that their voice matters,” said Monica Yelin, Executive Director, Hispanic Liberty Alliance.
