Growing in Arizona: New Tucson Chapter Expands Our Cause in Key State

In September, our activists in Arizona continued to expand our movement and took part in multiple events. The month started off with over 60 participants at a September 3rd  kickoff rally for our new Tucson chapter, which is being led by Nick Pierson.

Making an Impact: Our new Tucson chapter hosted a successful kickoff rally and joined our other Arizona activists on multiple fronts in September.

Our Tucson chapter immediately jumped into action, and joined our other OAF activists to co-host a Safer Streets, Brighter Futures lunch on September 9th with the Hispanic Liberty Alliance. The lunch included an invite-only group of 30 community leaders and law enforcement officials who discussed reducing crime in the Tucson area.

Our activists were also out in the community making their voices heard against Star Village, a proposed homeless encampment for 25 women and non-binary individuals, which will cost $450,000 per year. We joined with the Tucson Crime Free Coalition and the Sugar Hill Neighborhood Association at a rally on September 15th, and followed up by speaking out at a Tucson Ward 3 Townhall  meeting on September 17th.

Many of our activists attended the September 16th  memorial service for slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk on the University of Arizona campus . As we previously noted, Charlie Kirk was dedicated to peaceful, civil dialogue and it was important to honor his memory and stand against violence and division.

We rounded out the month with eight Hometown Heroes hosting a table at the Fresh Start International Lunch, where we networked with other individuals and organizations around the issue of criminal justice reform.

It was a phenomenal month for our Arizona activists, and we look forward to continuing to grow and organize around our core issues in this key state for our movement!
