Families are Hurting, Hometown Heroes Are Helping

Cost of Living

December 5, 2024

A study released earlier this year from Thrivent finds 2 out of every 3 Americans have concerns about how they’ll manage their holiday finances this year, including 27% of people who are “very concerned.”

Our America‘s Hometown Heroes are making a difference by helping those families and individuals struggling to pay for gas and groceries. In Marana, Arizona, our volunteers helped Hometown Hero Dr. Emil Tompkins with his Thanksgiving Food Drive. For over 20 years, Dr. Tompkins has distributed hundreds of turkey’s and food baskets in his community.

“He is an amazing man who has been recognized as a blessing to the community,” Our America Arizona State Grassroots Director Paul Parisi said.

Several Our America Hometown Heroes recently participated in the GAP Ministries new kitchen ribbon cutting ceremony. GAP Ministries provides group homes for foster children. Hometown Hero Executive Chef John Hohn not only serves hundreds of meals each day from this kitchen, he and his team train former inmates in culinary arts.

These are just two examples of Our America’s shared values in action. We are united behind the timeless values of safe neighborhoods, freedom of thought, speech and religion, fair elections, and the relentless pursuit of the American Dream.

In the three short years since launching Our America, we’ve recruited close to 2,500 Hometown Heroes who have volunteered hundreds of hours helping their communities realize for brighter futures.
