Catherine “Cat” Mortensen
Communications Director, Our America
Catherine is a leading Washington, D.C. strategic communications expert who has headed up digital and traditional media operations for more than 15 years – from Capitol Hill to some of the nation’s most high-profile and effective non-profit advocacy organizations.
Before coming to Washington, Catherine served in elected office on her city council in Canon City, Colorado. She then earned a master’s degree in public administration from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government.
Catherine is a native New Mexican whose family has lived the American Dream. Her grandfather migrated from Northern New Mexico during the Great Depression to work in the copper mines outside of Salt Lake City. He later became a union member working as a welder helping to build oil pipelines in the western United States and at shipyards during World War II. He passed down to his children and grandchildren a deep love for America and a drive to work hard to achieve the American Dream.
Catherine and her husband live in Fairfax, Virginia and are the parents of two grown children.
